APOGEE

New mechanical equipment controller's flexibility allows Siemens Building Technologies, Inc., to provide customizable, cost-effective solutions for any size facility

Providing precision and flexibility, the MEC (Modular Equipment Controller) from Siemens Building Technologies, Inc., is an integral part of APOGEE™ building management and control systems available from Siemens Building Technologies. The MEC is a high performance, modular, DDC (direct digital control) equipment controller. Performing complex control, monitoring and energy management functions, the MEC can operate as a stand-alone or a networked controller.

Three controller styles -- Series 100, Series 200 and Series 300 -- deliver precise HVAC (Heating, Ventilating and Air Conditioning) control of mechanical equipment and air handlers. According to senior product manager for Siemens Building Technologies, "Each series offers different configurations that allow Siemens Building Technologies to present cost-effective solutions for all facility sizes and applications." The Series 100 is ideal for small applications, while the Series 300 manages large, multiple-function applications through the use of point blocks and APOGEE AutoDial capabilities.

The MEC is composed of multiple, high-performance controllers that can be customized to manage unique application specifications. After a controller receives information from building sensors, it processes the information and directly controls the equipment.

Additional features enhance the MEC's management and system protection capabilities:

  • Facility management is complete with the MEC's built-in energy management applications and DDC programs.
  • Comprehensive alarm management, historical trend collection, operator control and monitoring functions are integral to the MEC.
  • When configured as a stand-alone product, the Series 300 meets the requirements of a building management system such as managing operation schedules and dialing out to other building systems.
  • An easy-to-replace lithium battery protects program and database information against extended power failures.
  • The power recovery circuitry supplies brownout and power fluctuation protection.

Offering the latest in energy management technology, the MEC brings APOGEE building automation solutions to new heights.
