Digital Energy Monitor
from Siemens Building Technologies, Inc., measures energy to optimize
efficiency
The DEM (Digital Energy Monitor) Series 1000 Electrical Submeter
from Siemens Building Technologies, Inc., measures energy consumption
(kWh) and demand (kW). A key component of the Siemens solution for
utility cost management, the DEM helps managers improve the assessment,
management and prediction of energy costs. All seven digital power
transducers in the series have direct connection to the Floor Level
Network of the APOGEE™
Automation System.
The DEM combines a state-of-the-art communicating microprocessor-based power transducer and high accuracy current transformers (CTs) in a single package. The transducers can be connected to any new or existing field panel in the APOGEE system such as the Modular Building Controller, Remote Building Controller, Floor Level Network Controller and Stand-alone Control Unit.
"We designed a cost-effective, easy-to-install energy monitor than helps our customers gather data in preparation for and throughout the upcoming challenges of utility deregulation," explains the Vice President of Development for Siemens Building Technologies. "Using the data, managers can gain a better understanding of their energy baseline or load profile, identify equipment performance problems, determine equipment and system efficiency solutions, forecast building demand, and support budgeting and cost allocation applications."
Additional benefits of the DEM include:
- The series meets a wide range of electrical load applications including entire buildings, individual loads such as lighting or heating circuits and specific equipment such as pumps, chillers or air handlers.
- The pre-wired, self-contained transducer requires no additional parts or external mounting devices.
- The small transducer is easy to install and fits directly inside the electrical enclosure.
- The transducer has a built-in microprocessor, which automatically compensates for CT orientation and eliminates the need for calibration.
- The highly accurate DEM provides energy readings within ±1% of reading.
- The DEM is UL 1244 listed.
Siemens developed this energy measuring application to help our customers better address utility costs. Producing a highly accurate device at an affordable price was also an important objective.
