New Online Energy Management Service from Siemens helps building owners reduce costs and emissions

BUFFALO GROVE, IL, (October 2002)- Utility Information Services (UIS), a new energy management service for North American and European markets from Siemens Building Technologies, is an online solution that helps building owners monitor and reduce energy costs and emissions.

The UIS on-line solution from Siemens is available in English, German, Danish, French and Dutch. It uses Internet technology, rather than on-site hardware and software systems, to monitor energy consumption and costs. User training requirements are thus minimized and system maintenance all but eliminated.

"Industry data indicate that merely measuring and monitoring building energy consumption by senior management can induce behavioral changes and reduce energy usage by as much as 20 percent. Siemens' new UIS is truly an affordable energy monitoring solution for individual buildings or large companies with widely dispersed facilities," said Daryl Dulaney, president, Building Automation, Siemens Building Technologies, Inc.

Siemens' UIS entry-level service was launched in Denmark and Austria in August, 2002, as a complementary offering to the company's existing load profile reporting services in North America Siemens' new UIS solution will now be rolled out worldwide.

UIS delivers value through at least seven unique advantages that:

  • Eliminate costly and error-prone manual processes, leading to higher quality and timely energy data
  • Provide on-line access to energy information 24/7
  • Improve management decision-making by centralizing energy management
  • Enable benchmarking between buildings, allowing for timely management intervention
  • Provide energy management reports for both executive management and energy engineers or analysts
  • Fulfill country-specific environmental regulations (e.g., Kyoto protocol)
  • Provide a high-value at low-cost, by eliminating the need for costly onsite system hardware, software and system maintenance
Siemens Building Technologies, Inc., is the North American affiliate of Zurich-based Siemens Building Technologies (SBT) AG, the leading single-source provider of cost-effective facility performance solutions for the comfort, life safety, security, energy efficiency and operation of some of the most technically advanced buildings in the world. In North America, SBT employs 8,500 professionals and provides local service from more than 400 locations coast-to-coast. Worldwide, SBT employs 33,000 and serves customers in more than 125 countries.
