In This Issue... We’re
focusing on a new application based on familiar and proven
components. It is a modulating feedwater application that’s
gaining popularity. Similar to your favorite baseball or
sports team, there’s something about seeing individual talent
coming together to create an all-star team. At Siemens, the
same can be said about our components. Each one performs like
a champion – extremely reliable and accurate. When matched
together, they offer your customers a complete solution. Read
on to find out what players are working together to create an
unbeatable team – ‘The Siemens Differential Pressure
Modulating Level Control Solution’.

Barr
Mechanical had experienced too many problems with our
competition’s systems. These other systems did not
accurately control the water level, and also were not
reliable for any extended length of time. They decided
to try the Siemens Level Control System at one of
Elmhurst Hospital’s many facilities. It was easily
installed, and Barr Mechanical experienced no problems
with commissioning. They have since used it at other
hospital installations in the Chicagoland
area.
“I appreciate you spending time with me
on the level control system. I am impressed with the
system and I have urged the office to use it for all
level applications.” Thomas Regan, Barr

Safety
Reminder A 2001 study, conducted by the
National Association of Boiler and Pressure Vessel
Inspectors, revealed a total of 1,091 accidents —
including two deaths — involving steam-heated boilers in
2001. Low water accounted for nearly half of the
accidents, while operator error or poor maintenance
accounted for 37 percent.

Are
your customers tired of old-fashioned controls that cannot
maintain a constant water level in your boiler or deaerator
tank? Our system is a solid state, fully modulating level
control system that offers accurate, reliable control. It
precisely maintains the water level inside the deaerator tank
or boiler to prevent flooding or running dry. This helps your
customers avoid low or high level lockout conditions and
alarms! The features of these components make the Siemens
system extremely flexible and ideally suited for retrofit or
new installations on most boilers and deaerators.
The
key players are:
1. The RWF40
Controller The RWF40 is the first and only
single loop, temp/pressure PID (Proportional Integral
Differential) control on the U.S. market that is designed and
engineered specifically for burner/boiler applications. The
same functions can also be used to control water level. Both
intelligent and anticipatory, it uses an auto tune function
that allows the PID parameters to be optimized to the boiler
for optimum level stability without hunting. Extra relay
contacts are configured to high or low level indicators. An
additional operating relay can be configured to turn pumps on
or off. There’s no need to re-pipe to put the desired
operating level at a different height – simply change the
controller’s setpoint up or down. Modbus capabilities enable
remote monitoring, allowing the controller to interface with a
building management system or through an HMI (human-machine
interface).
2. Differential Pressure
Sensor
This sensor features a solid-state
design, so there are no moving parts to bind up or wear out.
It is easily commissioned utilizing only three buttons located
on the top of the sensor (or via HART communication).

You
Should Know
Meet
Pete Pinto, Sr. Principal Application Engineer. Ask Pete what
his two favorite features on the Differential Pressure Level
Control System are and he’ll tell you: First, it’s rock-solid
and highly accurate! Second, it’s easy to commission and the
water level can be easily adjusted at the touch of a button.
Thanks to the RWF40 Controller, the operator can move the
desired water level up or down, which eliminates the need to
physically re-pipe to change the desired level to a different
height.
