Speech Summary

Out of the Boiler Room, Into the Boardroom
By Rick LeBlanc, Sr. V.P. & Head of Siemens Building Automation Division

According to Rick LeBlanc, interoperability though open protocols is an established trend--clear to all that integration is the future of the building automation industry. However, while striving toward industry-standard protocols is an important objective, he asks: “Does using an open protocol provide better patient care or raise student test scores?” LeBlanc argues that instead of debating the relative merits of current protocols and associated technologies, the industry should work harder to provide solutions that help customers focus on reaching their short and long-term business goals. In his speech, LeBlanc challenges the industry to get out of the boiler room and into the boardroom and suggests ways to work more closely with customers, identify their business objectives, and make them more successful.
