Siemens Companies Partner to Advance Wireless Solutions

BUFFALO GROVE, Ill (Jan. 20, 2005) - Two Siemens companies have partnered to actively research and develop the next wave in wireless building solutions.

Siemens Building Technologies, Inc., and Roke Manor Research, Ltd.— a wholly owned Siemens company and a leader in wireless solutions in Europe and North America—are now working to develop new solutions based on emerging wireless technologies, such as: IEEE 802.15.4, ZigBee™ and other related low-powered, low-cost, mesh wireless solutions.

"At Roke Manor Research we have been at the cutting edge of wireless research and development for almost 50 years,” said Malcolm Streeton, principal project manager at Roke Manor Research. “Since becoming part of Siemens in 1991, a range of Siemens businesses have benefited from our capability, in particular, Siemens Communications and its cellular radio products. We are now pleased to be able to bring this expertise to the Building Technologies business to help develop innovative products to benefit its customers."

Siemens customers will benefit from the development of new products that will allow them to no longer be constrained by a wire connection. This will simplify the connection of networks, sensors and other devices to each other, and it will provide additional flexibility and mobility in their use. Additionally, it will open up a whole new world of building solution applications that were previously not possible.

Siemens Building Technologies brings its knowledge and expertise of building performance solutions to the partnership, as well as its experience in applying new technologies to better serve its customers’ needs.
